Scar Tissue/Muscle Tear Treatment

Purposes of our Scar Tissue/Muscle Tear Treatment

After many years of experience in sports injury and surgery rehabilitation, we have developed our own rehabilitation protocol for muscle tear and scar tissue formation.

This rehabilitation protocol combines different rehabilitative techniques such as:

  1. Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization ( IASTM ).
  2. Diacutaneous Fibrolysis.
  3. Sports Massage Techniques.
  4. Heat Therapy.
  5. Bandages Techniques.

IASTM technique utilizes special stainless steel tools with particular shapes and dimensions to fit all the body’s muscles, joints, and tendons.

Thanks to these tools we can break down the scar tissue formed after a muscle tear.

Furthermore, IASTM techniques are instrumental in easing all possible muscle tension, adhesions, and knots that occur in the area of the muscle injury.

With these tools, we can reduce the number of sections and speed up the recovery time.

Diacutaneous Fibrolysis (DF) is a noninvasive rehabilitation technique. DF is an instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization developed from the Cyriax deep friction massage principles. It consists of a set of metallic hooks applied to the skin that allow deeper penetration and a more precise application than manual techniques, providing advantages in treating soft tissues such as muscle, tendon, and fascia.

Thanks to the expertise of our Sports Therapist and Physiotherapist, with this technique, they obtain a decrease in rigidity and an increase in relaxation of the injured muscle.

Sports Massage is a thorough sports massage therapy that helps to reduce muscle tension, soft tissue friction, and muscle rigidity, and increase muscle and joint mobility after a muscle injury.

Heat therapy is applied during the treatment with special heating pads. Heat therapy increases muscle relaxation making soft tissue manipulation more effective.

Furthermore, heat therapy increases blood perfusion speeding up the waste cells’ removal from the scar tissue break-down activity.

If the muscle tear is consistent and the symptoms are strong, we proceed with a bandage of the muscle injured. This will allow the muscle to be less stressed and get some support during the load of its contraction.

Benefits of our Scar Tissue/Muscle Tear Treatment

Our Scar Tissue/Muscle Tear Treatment provides a wide range of physiological and biomechanical benefits to the injured muscle such as:

  1. Reduced scar tissue formation.
  2. Increased connective tissue remodeling.
  3. Increased blood perfusion of the soft tissues.
  4. Increased muscle flexibility.
  5. Reduced muscle rigidity.
  6. Increased muscle relaxation.
  7. Increase joint mobility.
  8. Decrease soft tissue and joint friction.
  9. Reduced muscle pain.
  10. Increased muscle power.
  11. Reduced tendon tension.

Why People Choose Our Scar Tissue/Muscle Tear Treatment

In this clinic, thanks to more than 18 years of experience in sports injuries, we have developed an alternative physiotherapy protocol to treat and cure muscle tears and scar tissue formation.

Generally, muscle tears are treated using the RICE Approach:

  1. Rest
  2. Ice
  3. Compression
  4. Elevation

Basically, this is a Self-Healing Approach.

It works, but in our opinion, most of the time there are side effects of this approach.

The most important side effect is the entity of scar tissue formation.

The more the muscle tear is big in dimension and more the scar tissue formation.

During our muscle tear/scar tissue treatment, we perform instruments-assisted techniques aiming to facilitate the healing process and reduce scar tissue formation.

In order to have these effects we treat the torn muscle fibers in this way:

  1. We try to reconnect as much as possible the two ends of the torn muscle fibers in order to reduce the formation of connective tissue.
  2. We reduce the muscle fiber retraction that has formed at the two ends of the torn muscle.
  3. We realign the muscle fibers to stimulate a better so-called sarcomere alignment during the remodeling process of the muscle tear.
  4. We break down the excessive and not organized scar tissue formation.
  5. We treat and massage all the other surrounding synergist muscles as they can express their maximum power to help reduce the biomechanical load on the injured muscle.

Despite there being a chance to treat and cure a muscle tear we advise our athletes to put in place a treatment plan for muscle injury prevention!
